A large mob marched to the Bastille, looking for gun powder and prisoners that had been taken by King, Louis XVI. The commander of the bastille didn't open the gates and opened fire on the mob. In the battle that followed many people were killed. then the mob was finally able to break through the gates of the bastille. The mob killed the commander, five prison guards and released many prisoners. They didn't find any weapons. The storming of the Bastille quickly became a symbol of the French Revolution. They looked at it as a blow to tyranny and a step towards freedom. Today, the French still celebrate July 14 as Bastille Day, the French National Holiday.
